Pete Hooton

Superb batsman and excellent slow/medium pace bowler. Peter, who has never lost the toss, is a top order batsman of exceptional note. His bowling is untouchable at times. Favourite shots are too many too mention as he plays most shots with a confidence and style which makes most other batsmen wonder if they'll ever be as good. Likes his creatine, and likes to run 12 ciruits of the boundary before each innings and after the match too. Claim to fame is that he once caught Mike Atherton at a schoolboy match at Old Trafford and Athers was said to have been in awe of the Birkdale boy. Nicknames Wang, atlas, bolt, leopard, the Stanley stud muffin and Vorderman (maths!!?) Football team, Liverpool. Sense of humour, fantastic!!!

      Matty Harrison

Top order batsman and former Club Captain, with an efficiency at the crease reminiscent of a young Don Bradman. Knows the rule book inside out, fancies himself as a bowler and indeed got some long spells in, when he was Captain! Favourite shot, graceful cover drive, a joy to watch as he holds the pose long enough for someone to take a photo! Excellent fielder and good team player in spite of a heavily receding hairline. Nicknames 'Snooty', 'Baywatch'... Football team, Liverpool.

      Eddie James

Middle order batsman who can change a game with his aggresive batting style, but can also dig in and grind one out if necessary, and win you the game when 'in the zone'. Excellent in the field with an excellent pair of hands. Takes the game very seriously and doesn't like to lose and you can tell if he's up for it in the field with his incessant nagging of the batsmen and continuous support of the bowler. If you're gonna give him stick, be prepared for a shed-load back in return! Runs between the sticks like a bloke with a bowler hat and brolly! Favourite shot Backhand smash. Nickname 'Jamo'. Football team, Liverpool.

      Neil Thompson (Captain)

Former Club Captain, late order left handed batsman although opened for a few seasons and now third, fourth or fifth change bowler. Clubs record wicket taker still has a bit in the locker if needed. Very good hands in the field and can get down well for a fat bloke. Favourite shot cross bat slog to cow corner. Good for team morale unless it's his turn to do tea's, because he's the Club vegetarian, so no meat, and "you can't make friends with salad"! Nickname 'Tommo'. Football team, Liverpool/Southport.

     Simon Bushell

Quality left handed opening batsmen who has won Players Player of the Year more than anyone else at the club and with his very correct batting style stands out from most of the squad, and as a slow left arm spinner has taken a large number of wickets, generally when Craggy, Tommo, Steve and Pete have removed the decent batsmen. Former Club 'gigolo' and sex symbol(now Alex Rimmer) and generally an ever-present, rarely misses a game, unless maybe the Pussycat Dolls or Liberty X are on tour or maybe a trip to Flamingo-Land!!!!. Favourite shot is difficult 'cos he's got a couple, probably the late cut to third man. Nicknames, 'model', 'Bushie', 'Bush'. Favourite quotes: " it hit me outside the line..." and "i never touched it...". Football team, West Brom.

     Paul Hooton

Paul is another left hander and older brother of former Skipper Peter. Doesn't play very often because, as a teacher, he's always on holiday with his University chums, many outings throughout the year, which raise money for Bars and boozers in Thailand. Paul is a very solid performer with the bat, with some very nice strokes in his repertoire, his favourite shot, down the entry for four. Nickname, Hooty. Football team, Leeds Utd.

     Alan Morris

Alan is probably the best example of team player, from turning out at practise to being there Saturdays, meetings and the welfare of the club in general. He is a right handed batsman who is also called on to bowl occasionally. Excellent in the field although his catching at times could be compared to that of Stevie Wonder. Alan also has a passion for the theatre, and once a season he can be seen in a pair of tights on the back of a lorry driving very slowly through the town centre, hmm...                                    Favourite shot is straight drive and nicknames, marigold, Boz, crazylegs. Football team, Leeds Utd.

     Richard Cowey (Vice Captain)

Richard is another former Captain and highly efficient batsman and the Club wicket keeper. His aggressive batting style often gets the scoreboard ticking again as he wields the flashing blade. As the Treasurer he likes to get the subs in very quickly possibly due to the fact he is a Scotsman!. Has been with the Club from the start and most players have a 'Richard Cowey and alcohol story'! Great team player and a joy to watch when he gets in, especially the 87 not out he scored at Aughton whilst drunk and wearing a tam o'shanter! Favourite shot, anything through the offside. Nickname, Cowabunga and football team Sunderland.

     Richard Marshall

Richard is another former club captainand left handed lower order batsman or middle order or opener, basically can and has been used and abused all over the park! Also a former wicket keeper, Richie kept wicket for the best part of the first ten years and isn't a stranger to taking a ball in some painful areas for the team. Great servant to the Club, can often be seen sliding off to the toilet when it's his round. Favourite shot is a straight drive but he also has a fantastic shuffle which has upset many a fielding side in the past, a great partner out in the middle, unless you get downwind of him after curry night. He's also been with the club since day one and has spilt a lot of claret for the Club. Fave football team, Liverpool.

     Pete Baker

One of the Clubs most important and most respected members and another former captain. Right handed batsman and quality bowler and a valuable fielder too. Also one of the Clubs longest serving players and current Club Secretary. Has a good range of shots but can sometimes be very distracted by helicoptors, small aircraft and is especially fond of microlites! Serves the club well on and off the pitch with the possible exception of losing a full box of brand new balls after Mrs Baker decided to throw them away!! An out and out winner who lifts morale at important times in a game, and not afraid to speak his mind. Football team Liverpool.

    Steve Van Der Merwe

Steve enjoying his third season at the Club, and what a performer to have as part of your team. Excellent strike bowler from South Africa and more than capable top order right handed batsman. On the field of play an aggressive team player who takes winning very seriously as can be seen when appealing. Off the field a thouroughly nice chap, polite, smooth, debonnaire, and definitely one for the ladies! Also Steve is very popular with his superb teas which include South African doughnuts that do absolutely nothing for your cholesterol but much to your tastebuds!! An excellent addition to the team Steve has fitted in well and is a pleasure to take the field with, but don't drop a catch off his bowling.........Football team, Spurs.

      Steve Howe

Steve is current Captain and right handed opening batsman and has also proved to be an important bowler on more than one occasion. Steve is an incredibly laid back individual but with a winning mentality. Can often be found swimming with dolphins just off the Wirral peninsular and when not out with flipper, he likes to whittle small rodents from balsa wood and then relax with a couple of hours of Yoga. Favourite band, 'My Bloody Valentine'. Brilliant team player and all round Mr Nice Guy, a pleasure to play with. Football team, Leeds Utd.

     Alex Rimmer

Portland Wines answer to David Beckham, Alex oozes charm with the ladies, as Alex is now the Club sex symbol, as Mr Bushell retires and settles down! Alex is a bowler with pace and potential when he's not dragon boat racing for Great Britain or selling shoes. Has a hairstyle that has been likened to a young Wurzel Gummidge ie. the 'just got up look' which is sweeping the nations youth. Favourite band McFly and fotball team Manchester Utd.

     Scott Francis

Scott is a pace bowler and right handed bat who is proving to be a very uefull member of the team, when he is awake. He has been seen rubbing shoulders with former premier league footballers lashed in clubs! He is a regular at nets on Wednesday night but has to leave early to practise his real love playing the recorder!! Good luck with Harvest Festival
